Okay so I am pretty sure that most people are becoming very annoyed with me, as I have been pushing Bowl For Kids' Sake down everyones throats for several weeks now, but I do have to make several more pleas before this is over. . .I want to let people know how important it is to give. . .
These are some numbers that recently came out in the 2010 Kids Count Nebraska report. . .
• According to the 2010 Kids Count in Nebraska data 16% of children in Hall County, 10% of children in Hamilton & Merrick counties and 14% of children in Howard counties aged 17 and younger live in poverty
• Data from the 2008-2009 school year reports that there were 90 high school drop outs in Hall county while there was 669 graduates
• From 1999-2008 Hall county had 400 births to mothers between the ages of 10-17, Hamilton County had 20, Howard and Merrick counties had 13 each
• Kids Count in Nebraska data from October 2009 reports that in Hall county alone 5,892 students received free/reduced lunch while 3,183 children in Hall county participated in the food stamp program
• In 2009 there were 817 juvenile arrests in Hall county, 3 each in Hamilton & Howard counties and 2 in Merrick county
These are all numbers that could and will be prevented with the help on Mentors for those Nebraska Counties. . .We need your help however. . .
Our goal for Bowl For Kids' Sake 2011 is $36,000.00 Even if we do meet this goal, we will have a very significant Bugdget gap that really needs to be closed somehow. I am in no way asking those of you who read this blog to give beyond your means, I am simply asking you to give. 5 Dollars can make as big a difference as 5,000 dollars. Please, please prayerfully consider giving to this fundraiser and help us reach those kids who truly need positive role models.

AARRGGHH...
Okay so for the past two weeks I have been struggling with extremely "grayed" out vision. I can see, however, my right eye is really fuzzy. I didn't say anything to anyone because, crazy me, I was hoping the vision would come back on its own. (something that it has never done)
I finally decided that enough was enough and called my eye doctor in Omaha today. I was truly hoping that she would just order the same course of treatment and not want to see me, but of course she wouldn't. I did manage to get into my eye doctor in Grand Island and found out that my optic nerves have quite a bit of inflamation in them again. They are not swollen like they had been before, but they are inflamed. So that was all my Omaha doctor needed to hear to order a three day course of IV Steroids followed by a 10 day taper of Prednisone.
I can only pray that my vision will be restored after this and I hope that you will pray the same things with me.

Finally???????
Well we think we finally may have a name for the mystery that is my health. . .the last time I posted I mentioned that one of my Thyroid numbers that was supposed to be less than for came back at 32. . .that would diagnose me as having a disease call Hashimoto's Disease. I am posting a link at the end of this blog that will help you read up and understand it more.
I will admit however that I am still very frustrated for this whole process, because in my very human mind, we have a name, now treat it. But my human mind is not perfect, there is only one perfect being out there and God is it. He knows what my treatment plan is even if I can't seem to understand His rationale for not revealing it to me in a much quicker manner. For that reason I am going to repost something I wrote several months back. I am still holding firm to this post and praying it daily.

This is my CRAZY Season. . .
First an update of sorts:
All of my blood work came back "normal" meaning what we wanted to show something didn't. Actually this is a very good thing because the chief treatment for what the doctor was looking for is chemo therapy. . .don't want that. My thyroid hormone level was normal, but one of the numbers that comes back for a thyroid count was a tad off. The number was supposed to be less than four, mine was 32!!!! The doctor feels that this warrants an ultrasound of my thyroid to check to see if there are any nodules growing on it. If so I am not sure where we go from there.
Okay now the crazy season:
We were talking at work the other day about threats and opportunities for our agency. I spoke up and said that I sometimes felt like the first four months of each year were like a threat. The entire staff looked at me like I was out of my mind, but then I explained myself. (I had also just come back from two days of being sick, so that didn't help)
At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grand Island our major fundraising season is right at the beginning of each year. In February we have a store we call Glamorous Generosity. This is our opportunity to play dress up for a few weekends as we take all donated prom/formal/bridesmaids dresses and sell them for $20 or less. We receive donations from all over including the two bridal stores that are in the area. This is a fun time, but still stressful as we have to move 700 dresses from our office to a donated store space at the mall. Then when we are done, we have to move the unsold ones back.
Immediately following Glamorous Generosity, we roll into our biggest fundraiser called Bowl For Kids Sake (BFKS). This is the national fundraiser and most years it brings in about a third of our budget. So we are super stressed this year because we have a slight budget issue and need BFKS to be extra successful. This of course stresses us all out.
On top of all the fundraising, I try to coordinate school recruiting for the next school year, all monthly match activities, and get the rest of my office work done. Sometimes I think I should just move a bed into my office.
Anyway, if you don't see anything posted here for the next few weeks you now know why. Oh, I will try to update on the Thyroid Ultrasound as soon as I get results.

Finally Someone has Listened to Me
So I got to see a new doctor today. I went to her because I had asked my eye doctor to test my cortisol levels. This of course is not a test she can do, but she referred me to an endocrinologist who could. After taking my VERY DETAILED health history, she asked me why I was there. I said i think we need to check my cortisol levels, and she said. . .wait for it. . ."well yeah, they should have done that four years ago.!"
Imagine my surprise, when I finally had a doctor agree with me...Therefore I had yet another set of blood draws today. Then tonight I have to take a pill and have my blood drawn at 8 a.m. tomorrow for another test. If that comes back with abnormalities then I have to do another test over a 24 hour period. I am excited that someone has chosen to finally agree with me...
As we walked out of the office today I looked at my mom, who seems to be my chauffeur, and said, I really like her. First time I have ever said that about a doctor in my life...
I will keep you posted on results and such.
